Customs Authority Searches Engel & Völkers Offices Over Suspected False Self-Employment

The Customs Authority conducted searches across Germany on suspects from the real estate agency Engel & Völkers. The investigation is related to suspicions of false self-employment. Under the leadership of the Bielefeld Public Prosecutor’s Office, 18 search warrants were executed this morning. Digital forensic experts were also deployed in Hamburg.

The investigation involves several individuals who allegedly employed real estate agents without paying social security contributions. The suspects are accused of registering these agents as self-employed while they were actually working under the company’s instructions. This is considered false self-employment.

During the searches of residential and commercial properties, evidence was sought. Both incriminating and exonerating evidence was searched for. Witnesses were also questioned. The investigation was initiated by the Bielefeld Main Customs Office.

Engel & Völkers confirmed the searches at their offices. A spokesperson stated, “We take these allegations very seriously and are cooperating with the authorities. Our goal is to resolve the situation quickly and thoroughly.”
