Krefeld Christmas Card: Child’s Talent Brightens the Holiday

In the coming days, the Mayor of Krefeld, Frank Meyer, will send Christmas cards to well-known recipients. One of the cards will be sent to the Federal President’s residence at Schloss Bellevue.

The mayor will send more than 1,500 cards with New Year’s greetings on behalf of the city. This year, the design on the card was created by eight-year-old Emi from Class 3A at the Busher-Hölzweg Street Elementary School. She won a school art competition. In total, 24 artworks were selected for the final.

At the opening of a small exhibition, Mayor Frank Meyer presented the winning artwork. He and his team carefully selected the winner. “Every year, we face a tough choice, but all the works deserve recognition. This year, there were many wonderful drawings,” said the mayor. “We started this tradition to make Krefeld’s Christmas card personal and unique. This has been achieved thanks to the creativity of the children.”

Emi created her drawing with wax crayons. In the center, she depicted a large, brightly decorated Christmas tree with gifts underneath. In the background, Santa Claus is flying through the sky in his sleigh with reindeer.

Since 2022, the Mayor of Krefeld has invited students from the local school to create designs for the Christmas card. This year, every student at the Busher-Hölzweg Street Elementary School participated in the competition. Each class selected two of the best drawings. The school then submitted 24 artworks to the mayor’s office.

As a thank-you, Mayor Frank Meyer presented the students with gift bags and invited them to visit the Krefeld Zoo.
