Major Fire at Miramar Thermal Complex in Weinheim
A severe fire broke out at the Miramar thermal complex in Weinheim. The roof of the salt crystal thermal area was engulfed by flames. Over 100 rescue workers were sent to fight the fire. They battled the blaze for several hours. Fortunately, they managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the sauna and family pool.
At the time of the fire, there were no visitors in the complex. All staff members were able to evacuate the building in time. The damage is estimated to exceed ten million euros, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The operators plan to reopen the complex over the weekend.
According to the owners, Miramar attracts up to 700,000 visitors annually. The catchment area extends within a 150-kilometer radius, including neighboring regions in Germany and France. In addition to the sauna and water park, the complex also features a lake with a beach.
The fire was discovered on Sunday evening. Staff reported the incident at 11:00 PM. Rescue teams arrived immediately after the alarm system was triggered. Initially, it was suspected that the fire had been caused by a washing machine. Later, a technical defect was identified as the cause. The police have launched an investigation.
The fire is now under control. However, efforts to extinguish the remaining hotspots are still ongoing. Part of the building was severely damaged, and the roof remains unstable. Specialized lift platforms are being used for the work.
Authorities hope the complex will reopen over the weekend. However, all ventilation systems must be checked, and the rooms need to be cleared of smoke first.
