Unknown Disease Claims 67 Lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo

An unknown disease has killed at least 67 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past two weeks. Children under 15 years old are the most affected. Patients show flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headaches, respiratory problems, and anemia. Over 370 people in Kwango province report similar symptoms.

An expert team is investigating the disease’s origin, which remains unknown. The World Health Organization (WHO) is helping collect samples and analyze the situation.

The outbreak has caused widespread panic among locals. Many are avoiding public places. The healthcare system is already overwhelmed by a monkeypox outbreak that has affected thousands this year. Authorities are handling two crises simultaneously. They face challenges due to limited testing capacity and weak healthcare infrastructure. 🦠
